Reproductive Health

Reproductive health is a cornerstone of SARO’s mission to improve the well-being of Somali communities. The organization is deeply committed to addressing critical reproductive health challenges, especially in underserved areas such as Afmadow and surrounding rural villages. Through targeted programs, SARO promotes access to essential reproductive health services, including maternal and child health care, family planning, and education on sexually transmitted infections (STIs). By ensuring these services are culturally appropriate and community-focused, SARO empowers individuals and families to make informed choices about their health, contributing to healthier and more resilient communities.

Additionally, SARO integrates reproductive health into its broader development and relief efforts, recognizing its intersection with gender equity and economic stability. The organization collaborates with local health authorities, diaspora, community leaders and NGOs to implement innovative strategies that reduce maternal and infant mortality rates, combat gender-based violence, and foster a supportive environment for women’s health rights. By placing reproductive health at the forefront of its activities, SARO aims to create sustainable and lasting improvements in the quality of life for the communities it serves.

One of the main strategic priorities of SARO in its involvement in the health sector is to ensure access to quality primary and secondary health care and services. SARO believes that this is achievable via the establishment of improved availability, access and quality of health care services; improve health infrastructure and human resource capacity. This can be done through:

  • Skill enhancement and training of local medical personnel.
  • Effective rehabilitation of available health care centers.
  • Re-equipping of the already established health centers.
  • Supply and delivery of drugs.
