Who we are

The Somali Advocacy and Relief Organization (SARO) is a women-led, rights-based organization founded in 2014. Operating primaril y in northern Somalia, especiall y Lower Juba, Af amdow, SARO has over 10 years of impactf ul interventions that have transformed the lives of thousands of vulnerable Somali women and girls.
SARO empowers women and children through lifesaving services, sustainable livelihoods, equitable education, primary healthcare, WASH, democracy and human rights advocacy, and legal assistance.
SARO was established by Somali women who recognized the immense suering of women and children due to decades of conflict, inter-clan violence, and natural disasters. The organization is committed to gender equality and eliminating discrimination against women and children. It has extensive experience in policy and advocacy, particularly in building women’s leadership and addressing the needs of marginalized groups.
Since its inception in 2014 SARO has proofed as local NGO who knows the locality, Aid deli very and priority of Lower/Middle Jubba and over South-Central Somalia. It is acti vity
revolves around relief eort and sustainable community that needs help from locals as well as outside. The community it serves never doubted its sincerity, vibrant alternati ve ideas, aid administration in f air and balance as local socio-economic dictate.
When disaster hit any part of this neglected region, SARO made every eort to come up with a new creati ve way to help or use aid in ecient way. SARO Aid eort has al ways dri ven the desire to have a peace building process among its communities. That eort gave confidence across the two Jubba to recognize SARO as indigenous NGO that care the livelihood, Education, protection as well as their way of life. Meanwhile, it built its reputation at grassroots level by providing a very amicable working environment through the participatory approach to involve community in its project.

The organization believes in humanitarian and participatory development that is gender-inclusi ve and equitable across ethnic, religious, and cultural lines, ensuring equal rights to health, education, and socio-economic fulfillment.
